Langdon Diaries
Alice was born 15 November 1856 in Mackford, Green Lake, Wisconsin to Rufus and Catherine Langdon. She was 23 years old when she began this diary. On her 24th birthday she noted that she “received two birthday presents”. Just over a month later she died of Typhoid fever on Christmas day.
Her diary begins 6 days after daughter Alice died.
She makes note of daily life, visitors, chores and begins each entry with the weather.
She is living in the township of Manchester in Green Lake Co., Wisconsin.
August 2013 added photos of Catherine and Anna Langdon’s quilts.
In 1882 Catherine sold her land to daughter Mary (Langdon) Clark. Shortly after the sale
she followed her sons west to the Great Plains. They settled in Clear Lake, Dakota Territory.
South Dakota became a state on November 2, 1889. The diary begins 2 months later.
